Box Score
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (April 17, 2010) – The No. 2 C.W. Post women's lacrosse team mounted a furious second half comeback against No. 3 Lock Haven but it was not enough as the Eagles prevailed with a buzzer beater in the first overtime frame to win, 11-10, Saturday afternoon at Charlotte Smith Field.
Lock Haven stays undefeated at 13-0 overall and while C.W. Post slips to 10-1 overall.
The Pioneers held a 2-1 lead through the first 10 minutes of play with tallies from senior attacker Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Kim Williams (Long Valley, N.J.).
Lock Haven took of the game and scored five unanswered goals, including a goal from freshman attacker Emily Cilia (Kings Park, N.Y.) with one second on the clock, to lead 6-2 at halftime.
C.W. Post looked to regain some control in the second half. With a 9-4 deficit with 11:18 left to play, the Pioneers scored six unmatched goals, including three from sophomore attacker Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.), to lead 10-9 with 1:29 to play.
But the visitors could not protect the lead and with 1:01 left in regulation, junior attacker Allison Berger (Oreland, Pa.) fired in a shot on a pass from sophomore midfielder Elyse Fisher (Jackson, N.J.) to force the game into extra frames.
In the first overtime, the teams looked like they were going to play through a stale frame until Berger got the ball, ran in and shot the ball into the goal as time expired. The Eagles kept the Pioneers from scoring as senior goalkeeper Kira Nuttall (Baltimore, Md.) stopped two shots on goal to preserve the victory.
Berger finished the game with a game-high five goals with one assist and teammate Kayleigh Johnson (Fairport, N.Y.) added four. Nuttall stopped 11 shots in the game.
Both Olen and Williams registered a hat trick and Williams added an assist to lead the Pioneers.
Freshman goalkeeper Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) made 11 saves in goal for the Pioneers.
C.W. Post will waste no time getting back on the field as it hosts a conference match against Lake Erie on Sunday, April 18 at 12 p.m.
