Passafiume Propels No. 2 Women's Lacrosse Past Lake Erie, 22-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 18, 2010) – Ten different players scored to lead the No. 2 C.W. Post Pioneers past Lake Erie College, 22-1, in East Coast Conference women's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon at Hickox Field.
The win improves C.W. Post to 11-1 and 4-0 in conference play while Lake Erie drops to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the ECC.
Senior attacker
Stacie Passafiume (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) led the Pioneers in scoring with three goals and three assists for a total of six points while grabbing six ground balls and causing four turnovers. Sophomore attacker
Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) contributed four goals and one assist to the effort.
Spagnoletta started off scoring for the Pioneers just 13 seconds into the first half as she connected with teammate
Kian Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y.). Spagnoletta registered her second goal of the afternoon, unassisted, just 23 seconds later to give C.W. Post a 2-0 lead less than a minute into play. Passafiume tallied her first point of the afternoon as she ripped a shot off a few from senior
Brianne Jackolski (Shirley, N.Y.) at the 26:30 mark. Freshman
Abigail Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) extended the Pioneers lead to four off a pass from Passafiume with 25:49 left on the clock.
The Storm attempted to cut the Pioneers' momentum as Julia Kudla (Harleysville, Pa.) scored the lone goal of the game for Lake Erie off a free position shot at 22:55. Junior
Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.) regained possession for the Pioneers and ignited an 18 goal streak, registering an unassisted goal at 21:18 to give C.W. Post a four goal lead again. Goals from sophomore
Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.), Fucich, and Spagnoletta would come over the next three minutes to give the Pioneers a comfortable seven goal cushion with 18:38 left in the first half.
Passafiume tallied her second goal of the afternoon at the 13:54 mark before sophomore midfielder
Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.) scored off a feed from Fucich just a minute later. Another quick goal from Olen off an assist from Passfiume would give C.W. Post a ten goal lead with 12:12 left in the half. Mayott knocked in another goal while senior midfielder
Kim Williams (Long Valley, N.J.) capitalized on a free position shot to increase the Storm's deficit to twelve goals. One more goal from Olen and a tally by
Ashley Janelli (Glen Head, N.Y.) would give C.W. Post a 15-1 advantage at the half.
Passafiume exploded into the second half for C.W. Post, keeping the momentum going as she ripped a shot past Lake Erie keeper Brittanie Johnson (Hilliard, Ohio) less than four minutes into the second half. Spagnoletta scored her third and final goal of the game off a pass from Jackolski with at 22:16. Janelli connected with Mayott for her second goal before Mayott scored one more of her own to give C.W. Post a 19-1 lead with 10:41 left in the second half.
Sophomore defender
Brie-Claire Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) notched back to back goals in less than one minute, the second of which coming off a feed from senior
Caitlin Heragthy (Levittown, N.Y.) to give the Pioneers a 21-1 advantage with just over two minutes left in play. Junior
Taryn Crimi (West Islip, N.Y.) would score the final goal of the game with 35 seconds left to give C.W. Post the 22-1 victory.
Freshman
Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) earned her fourth win of the season with just over 17 minutes in net for C.W. Post. Junior
Sam Powers (Holbrook, N.Y.) made one save and allowed no goals against during 42:50 between the pipes. Johnson blocked 15 shots in net for Lake Erie
The Pioneers outshot the Storm by a 48-3 margin and held a 31-8 advantage in ground balls and a 20-5 edge in draw controls.
