Box Score
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (April 23, 2010)-
Senior starter Brian Saldana (Deer Park, N.Y.) pitched seven innings and allowed only one run, and freshman centerfielder Zack Graczyk (Carmel, N.Y.) went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI as the C.W. Post baseball team collected a 13-2 win over Mercy College on Friday afternoon.

The Pioneers improve to 23-11-1, 17-5 in ECC play, while Mercy drops to 13-22, 8-14 in conference.

C.W. Post took a 1-0 lead in the third as Graczyk singled and advanced all the way to third as the ball was misplayed by the Mercy centerfielder.  A Bryan Bonin (Commack, N.Y.) grounder to the right side scored Graczyk.

The Pioneers put four runs on the board in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run triple by freshman third baseman Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.).

Holding a 5-0 lead heading into the seventh, the Mavericks pushed across a run on a Mike Grassano (Valley Stream, N.Y.) double and a Vinny Tesoriero run-scoring single.

However, Saldana induced a fly ball that saw right fielder Mike Callaghan (East Meadow, N.Y.) make the catch then gun down Tesoriero trying to advance to third, and a strikeout ended the inning without any further Mercy runs.

The Pioneers tacked on two more run in the eighth, and Mercy scored a run in the bottom of the inning to make the score7-2.

C.W. Post exploded four six runs in the ninth inning with a two-run single by freshman second baseman Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y.) capping the scoring.

Saldana turned in seven innings of one-run baseball, scattering seven hits while striking out nine as he improved to 4-1 on the season.  Relievers Mike Behar (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Brian Tardiff (Mattituck, N.Y.) each pitched an inning to close out the contest.

Along with Graczyk, McKay went 3-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored, and Bonin and sophomore designated hitter Nick Compito (Syosset, N.Y.) each had two hits.

The Pioneers remain on the road as they play Mercy tomorrow in a noon doubleheader.
