BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 5, 2010) –
The C.W. Post baseball team dropped the continuation of Friday's contest against Bridgeport, losing 4-3 in the 14th inning, but bounced back to defeat the Purple Knights 7-5 in the final game of the series.

C.W. Post wins four of five games from Bridgeport, and improves to 14-8-1 on the season and 12-3 in the conference.  Bridgeport slips to 7-11 and 6-8 in conference play.

In the first game, which was suspended on Friday due to darkness, and resumed in the top of the 14th inning, Luke Abraham (Cumberland, R.I.) tripled to right center and scored on Peter Barrows' (Old Saybrook, Conn.) walk-off hit, giving UB the 4-3 win.

C.W. Post bounced back by taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the regularly scheduled Monday contest, as Zack Graczyk (Carmel, N.Y.) and Bryan Bonin (Commack, N.Y.) worked back-to-back walks to start off the inning.  Mike Callaghan (East Meadow, N.Y.) sacrificed both runners up one base, and they scored on Anthony Corona's (Carmel, N.Y.) double to right field.

Bridgeport tied the score in the top of the second as Ryan Barba (Stratford, Conn.) hit an RBI single and Mike DeLellis (Marlton, N.J.) roped an RBI sac fly to left field.

The Pioneers pulled ahead again in the bottom of the inning as Kyle Dean (Southbury, Conn.) scored on Bonin's groundout to second base.

But Bridgeport pulled even yet again in the third as another sacrifice fly, this time by Kevin Clements (Vernon, Conn.) to center field, plated another run.

Bridgeport took the lead in the fourth, as the Purple Knights scored two runs in the fourth, on an RBI single to third base by Abraham and an RBI single through the left side by Barrows, and heading into the fifth inning, Bridgeport led 5-3.

The Pioneers chipped away with a run in the fifth, with Stephen Orefice's (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) infield single driving in Callaghan from third.

The Pioneers evened up the game in the sixth, as Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y.) led off with a walk, and moved to second on a single by Graczyk.  Bonin sacrificed both runners over, and McKay scored on Callaghan's sac fly to center, tying the game 5-5.

McKay led off once again for the Pioneers in the eighth, this time with a single to center.  Graczyk boomed a double to deep left field, and Bonin was intentially walked, allowing Callaghan to drive in another run, with another sacrifice fly to center field.  One batter later, Nick Compito (Syosset, N.Y.) drove a single through the right side for an insurance run, and the Pioneers led 7-5.

Glen Hudson (Sayville, N.Y.) earned the win for C.W. Post with 5.2 innings of work in relief of starter Ryan O'Kelly (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), who went two innings and gave up two runs on three hits.  Hudson allowed just two hits and no run while striking out three in the effort.  The loss was handed to Chris Maull, who gave up three runs on four hits and two walks.

At the plate, Graczyk led C.W. Post with a 3-for-4 day, scoring two run.  Callaghan drove in two runs, and Compito also had two hits in the win.

The Pioneers take to the road tomorrow as they travel to Queens for a 3 p.m. game.
