Head Men's Basketball Coach Tim Cluess To Leave C.W. Post
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 8, 2010) - C.W. Post men's basketball head coach Tim Cluess is resigning his post to become the head men's basketball coach at Iona College, a Division I program that competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), in New Rochelle, N.Y.
“We wish Tim well,” said C.W. Post Director of Athletics Bryan Collins. “He's brought C.W. Post men's basketball back to national prominence, where it belongs, in a short period of time. We appreciate all his efforts as our men's basketball coach as well as being a significant part of the Pioneer family.”
“Tim is very deserving of this opportunity to rise in the rankings of men's basketball, based on the tremendous success he's had at every level he's been at,” continued Collins.
C.W. Post is a wonderful place to work, with terrific people to work for,” commented Cluess. "I've been fortunate to coach tremendous young men and it has been four of the happiest years of my life. I want to thank everyone at C.W. Post – from the administration, to the students, to the fans who supported us – everyone from top to bottom. It's been a great experience.”
Cluess took over before the 2006-07 season and won 19 games his first year, leading the Pioneers to the East Coast Conference championship final. A year later, the Pioneers finished 26-5, winning both the ECC regular season and tournament championships.
Cluess guided C.W. Post to its best season 2008-09, as the Pioneers posted a 30-1 mark, including a 24-0 regular season and an undefeated 18-0 finish in the ECC. The 30 wins are C.W. Post school record and was C.W. Post's first unbeaten regular season, as the Pioneers advanced to the Elite Eight.
This past year Cluess led C.W. Post to a 23-6 record, winning 19 of their last 21 games, and falling to Bridgeport in the ECC title game.
Cluess mentored nine All-East Coast Conference selections, including two-time Player of the Year Jonathan Schmidt, and this year's ECC Rookie of the Year, Jonathan Kohler (Bordentown, N.J.). He also received ECC Coach of the Year honors three times. In addition, he lead the Pioneers to a 43-game home court winning streak.
A national search for a new men's basketball coach will begin immediately.
