Baseball Eliminated From NCAA Regional, Falls To Stonehill 8-1
WEST HAVEN, CONN. (May 15, 2010) – The C.W. Post baseball team fell to Stonehill by a final score of 8-1, eliminating the Pioneers from the NCAA East Regional Tournament and ending the Pioneers season at 32-17-1.
Stonehill improves to 31-17.
C.W. Post started off the game with a leadoff double from freshman center fielder Zack Graczyk (Carmel, N.Y.), and a sacrifice fly from senior right fielder Mike Callaghan (East Meadow, N.Y.) drove him in for a 1-0 lead.
But Stonehill pushed across four runs in the third, as Rich McHugh (Pembroke, Mass.) doubled home two runs, and Angelo Bruno (Norwalk, Conn.) singled home two more.
The Skyhawks tacked on single runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth, and finished with an 8-1 victory.
Starter Brian Saldana (Deer Park, N.Y.) threw seven innings, giving up seven runs (six earned) on ten hits, walking one and striking out five batters.
Graczyk had two hits in the effort for the Pioneers, who despite the loss, close out a stellar season that saw them win both the ECC Regular Season and Tournament Championship titles, along with a school record 32 wins.
