Baseball To Face Franklin Pierce In NCAA East Regional
INDIANAPOLIS (May 9, 2010) – The six-team NCAA Division II East Region baseball playing field has been set and the C.W. Post Pioneers have been awarded the fifth seed in the tournament and will face the second-seeded Franklin Pierce University on Thursday at 3 p.m at Yale Field in West Haven, Conn.
No. 1 seed Southern Connecticut will serve as the host. Stonehill, C.W. Post and Dominican all received automatic bids to the tournament as champions of the Northeast-10 Conference, East Coast Conference and Central Collegiate Athletic Conference respectively, while the three top seeds were at-large selections from the Northeast-10. The other two games in the opening round feature third-seeded New Haven versus fourth-seeded Stonehill, and top-seeded Southern Connecticut will face the sixth-seeded Dominican Chargers.
The Pioneers (31-15-1), who will be making their second NCAA appearance in the last three years, won the 2010 East Coast Conference title with a 6-5 11-inning win over the Molloy College Lions on May 8.
