Men's Basketball Eases Past NYIT, 98-72

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 19, 2010) –
Junior guard Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.)scored a game-high 27 points to lead the C.W. Post men's basketball team to a 98-72 road victory over NYIT on Wednesday evening at Recreation Hall.

The win is the seventh straight for the Pioneers, who improve to 11-6, 8-2 in ECC play. NYIT slides to 6-8, 4-6 in conference play. 

The Pioneers jumped out to a 10-point lead just four minutes into the contest, as they led 14-4 with 16:32 following senior forward Aaron Hall's (Syracuse, N.Y.) three-pointer. NYIT was able to stay within single digits, but as halftime neared the Pioneers went on a 15-6 run and pushed their lead to as many as 19 points, heading into the break with a 49-30 lead. 

NYIT never mounted a serious threat in the second half as the visitors increased their lead to 20+ points for the remainder of the contest. The Pioneers were helped by a 43-24 margin on the glass, as well as a 26-12 assist-turnover ratio. C.W. Post shot 54% from the field, making 36-of-66 attempts. CWP was also deadly from deep, making 12-of-24 shots from downtown. A 14-for-15 showing from the charity stripe rounded out the Pioneers efficient and accurate evening. 

Joining Bonneau in double figres were three other Pioneers, as Hall tallied 19 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Junior guard Billy Butler (Elmont, N.Y.) tallied 15 points, while sophomore Jonathan Kohler (Bordentown, N.J.) chipped in with 10 points. Senior guard Gil Montalvo (Astoria, N.Y.) added a game-high 11 assists. 

C.W. Post will return home to the Pratt Recreation Center on Saturday at 3:30 as the Pioneers host Molloy in an ECC matchup.
