BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (January 27, 2011)
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) led four Pioneers in double-figures with 18 as C.W. Post defeated St. Thomas Aquinas, 79-65. Carberry shot 8-11 from the field, leading the Pioneers to a 53.4 shooting percentage on the night.

Coach Chris Casey and the Pioneers move to 10-2 in conference play, 13-6 overall, and will now have sole possession of first place in the ECC with Queens and Bridgeport unable to play this week due to the weather. The Spartans drop to 4-8 in the conference, 4-13 on the season.

C.W. Post's first three made shots came via beyond the arc as Carberry, Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.), and Jonathan Kohler (Bordentown, N.J.) each connected from long range to open up the scoring for the Pioneers. Senior Jamie Blanchard helped bring the lead back to the Spartans with an “and one” with just under 13 minutes left in the first half. However, Bonneau quickly tied the game back up less than three seconds later. Freshman Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) then gave the Pioneers the lead for good with a put back lay-up, making the score 16-14.

The Pioneer lead grew to as large as 11 twice during the first half, with Aaron Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Kohler each converting on lay-ups. Kohler ended the first half with 12 points to go along with 7 rebounds. Sophomore Justin Brown led the Spartans with 10, as the team went into the locker room down 39-30.

Bonneau connected on two dunks during a 20 second time period during the second half, both alley-oops from Gilbert Montalvo (Astoria, N.Y.), to get the crowd fired-up. The pair of dunks helped grow the Pioneer lead back to 10 during the 14 minute mark of the second half, with the Pioneers increasing that lead all the way to 17 with less than nine minutes left. C.W. Post's lead went under double-digits only once after the Bonneau throw downs.

Blanchard and Brown were the only Spartans to finish in double-figures, as Brown completed his night with 13 points and Blanchard tied Carberry for the game-high at 18. Blanchard also pulled down nine rebounds.

Carberry led the scoring parade for the Pioneers with his 18, going 2-4 from beyond the arc. Kohler finished his night one rebound shy of a double-double, tallying 16 points and 9 rebounds. Bonneau finished the game with 16 points and four assists and Hall being the last Pioneer to reach double-digits at 14 points. Montalvo ran the offense well, dishing out seven assists.

Next will be a game against the Knights of Queens for the Pioneers, with first place on the line for both teams. With Queens not being able to play against Bridgeport, the Knights stand at 9-2 in the conference. The game is set for 7:30 on the campus of Queens College this Saturday, January 29.
