Women's Cross Country Takes 17th Place at UAlbany Invitational

.ALBANY, N.Y. (Oct. 15,2011) – In a 21 team field that consisted of many teams from all three NCAA Divisions, the women's cross country team took home a 17th place finish at the UAlbany Invitational.

Jennifer McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) was the first female Pioneer to cross the finish line at the event, as the sophomore finished the 5k course in a time of 20:12.9 for 68th place overall.  #Caitlin Smith# (Levittown, N.Y.) was the next to cross the line with an 86th overall finish in a time of 20:39.2.  #Alexa Montegari# (Wanaque, N.J.) also finished within the top 100, finishing 96th in a time of 20:51.2.

The men also had representatives take part in the event, as #Michael Fitzsimmons# (Hazlet, N.J.) took part in the men's 8k purple race and Raymond Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y.) and #Christian Altamura# (Seaford, N.Y.) were involved in the 8k championship race.  Fitzsimmons finished 48th overall and 14th among sophomores as he crossed the finish line in a time of 32:35.0.  Coyle took 52nd in the championship race, with a 17th best time among juniors at 26:51.2.  Altamura took 66th place finish and his 27:02.7 time was 24th among juniors. 

The Pioneers will now prepare this week for next week's ECC Championships.  Both the men and women's teams will take part in the event that will take place on the campus of C.W. Post on Oct. 23.
