OAKDALE, N.Y. (Oct. 19, 2010) – The C.W. Post volleyball team dropped a tough conference road match, 3-0 (14-25, 24-26, 14-25), to the Dowling Lions.  Dowling put down 36 kills with a .250 hitting percentage to help put away the victory.

The Pioneers now drop to 4-5 in the conference and 11-13 overall on the 2011 season.

With the first set playing tight early on and the score tied at 10, the Golden Lions took advantage of a 15-4 to close out the Pioneers.  During that span, the Pioneers committed eight different attacking errors.  Bethany Shepard led Dowling with six of the team's nine kills during the set.  As a team, the Golden Lions had a hitting percentage of .348.

The second game looked as if it was going to the Pioneers way as the squad held a late 20-16 lead.  However, Dowling managed to tie things up at 21.  Later, with the score at 24 points a side, the Golden Lions used a block and a kill to finish the set and take a 2-0 advantage in the match.  Maja Potpara was involved in both of the last two plays, as she joined Dragana Jelovac for the block and then put down the kill on the assist from Chelsea Callahan.  Each team found success on services during the second frame, as the Pioneers held a 4-3 advantage in that category.

Dowling then used another impressive run and a successful .371 hitting percentage to earn the set and match victory.  This set's run started when the teams were even at 9-9, and the Golden Lions used a 16-5 run to finish things.  Shepard once again took the lead in kills with six during the set on a .385 hitting percentage.

For the match, Shepard ended with a total of 16 kills on a .225 hitting percentage.  Jelovac ended her night with a .471 hitting percentage and eight kills.

The Pioneers finished with six services aces, led by Heather Adams' (Centerville, Ohio) three aces.  Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.) finished her night with seven kills to go along with three block assists.

C.W. Post will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 25, as the Pioneers will host the NYIT Bears for a conference match.  The match will begin at 7 p.m. inside the Pratt Recreation Center.
