Volleyball Takes Two Victories at Georgian Court Tri-Match
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 29, 2011) – The C.W. Post volleyball team pulled to an .500 overall record on this season with two match victories today at the Georgian Court hosted tri-match. The Pioneers defeated Concordia, 3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 25-28, 25-16), followed by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-21) sweep of Georgian Court.
C.W. Post now comes to an even 14-14 on the season after the 2-0 day.
After dropping the first set of the match against Concordia, the Pioneers went on to take the next three sets to earn the victory. The team used its defensive intensity to control the net area with a total of 12 team blocks, as well controlling 63 digs with four different individuals achieving double-figure dig numbers.
Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) contributed greatly to the team's block total, as she totaled seven blocks herself (two solo, five assisted).
Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) also had a huge part in the defensive attack, tallying five total blocks (two solo, three assisted).
The offense also did not disappoint in the victory, as 43 kills were notched with the help of
Stephanie Schwarz's 32 assists.
Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.) and
Jordan Schroer (Kailua, Hawaii) totaled 23 kills together to help lead the team with 12 and 11 respectively. Namahoe also took advantage of her 21 attacking attempts, committing no errors and connecting on 8 kills for a .381 hitting percentage.
In today's tri-match schedule, the Pioneers were put to the task of taking part in back-to-back matches as the squad quickly turned around to face the host, Georgian Court. The Pioneers used a collective .227 hitting percentage and seven service aces to earn the team's ninth sweep victory in 2011.
Schwarz once again distributed the ball well, putting together a three-set match of 23 assists. Schroer was the top benefactor of those assists as she compiled 11 kills. Adams led the team with three service aces to lead the team's total.
Delfs hit an impressive .312 to put down seven kills on 16 attempts with only two errors.
Next on the schedule for the team will be back-to-back home matches against conference opponents this upcoming week. The first will be a match against Bridgeport on Tuesday night, starting at 7 p.m. inside the Pratt Recreation Center.
