Men's Basketball to Face Former Conference Opponent, Adelphi, Tuesday Night
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 12, 2011) – Returning to a former conference rival's court on Tuesday, the C.W. Post men's basketball team will go on the road against non-conference opponent Adelphi. The Panthers joined the Northeast-10 conference during the 2009-10 season after playing in the ECC.
The Pioneers have begun the season 7-1 that includes winning five wins in a row over the course of about the past four weeks. The latest victory came last Wednesday, Dec. 7, over NYIT, 87-72. That was the first conference game of the year for C.W. Post as
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) led the charge with a game-high 26 points.
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) continued his impressive play thus far this season with 20 points and seven points while
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) tallied his first collegiate double-double behind a 14 point and 18 rebound performance.
As a team, the Pioneers shot 47 percent overall from the field while also holding the advantage on the backboards, outrebounding the Bears of NYIT by a 47-34 total.
Behind this victory, Bonneau and Williams each earned weekly honors from the ECC announced on Monday as Bonneau garnered Player of the Week while Williams took home Rookie of the Week.
Currently, the C.W. Post offense has been high-scoring with an average of 88.3 points per game through the first eight games while accumulating an average positive 8.9 scoring margin over opponents. The squad has also shot well on free throw opportunities, connecting on 72.1 percent of attempts and converting an average 19.4 shots from the line each game. Rebounding has also continued to be a key for the team's success, as the Pioneers have averaged to outrebound opponents 9.0 boards a game.
Carberry currently holds the team's lead in scoring with 22.3 points per game while also averaging 6.6 rebounds per game. Bonneau is just behind in the scoring column with 21.9 points per game and is leading the team with 19 three-pointers made.
Despite missing one game,
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) leads the team in rebounding with a 7.9 per game average while also chipping in 11.9 points a game. Williams trails Allen by .5 in the rebounding column, pulling down 7.4 boards a game.
Adelphi comes goes into action Tuesday night riding a seven game win streak and hold a 7-1 overall record that includes a 6-1 mark that puts them in first place in the competitive Northeast-10 conference. The Panthers last played this past Saturday, Dec. 10, in a home conference victory over LeMoyne, 76-61. As a team, Adelphi shot 52.9 percent from the field and created a notable 38 points off turnovers. Chris Ranglin led the Panthers in scoring with 18 points from the guard position.
Outscoring opponents on average of 6.6 points per game, the Panthers averaged a total of 64.0 points a contest. The team has shot an efficient 79.2 percent from the charity stripe while connecting on 14.3 free throws per game. Adelphi's defense has also been creating plays, as the team has forced opponents to make 20.3 turnovers a game behind generating 8.4 steals a game.
Robert Johnson holds the honor of the top scorer for the Panthers, being one of two players in double-figures with 13.8 points a game. Ranglin is the fellow top scorer for Adelphi, putting up an average of 12.6 points a game while also contributing a rebounding per game average of 4.1. Richard Harkins has been strong at the point, dishing out 3.5 assists per game while also creating 2.0 steals per game on the defensive end.
