Women's Swimming Finishes Second at Lions Invitational

EWING, N.J. (Dec. 4, 2011) – The C.W. Post women's swimming team finished in second place out of seven teams competing in the women ranks at the College of New Jersey's 2011 Lions Invitational.  Out of the teams, the Pioneers scored 666 points to place second. 

The event was a three day invitational that began on Friday and was completed on Sunday. 

On Friday, C.W. Post began the event with a win in the 200 free relay, as Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.), Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada), Mairi Morrison (Carnock, United Kingdom), and Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden) combined to finish with a 1:36.08 time.  Garriock then also took home a first place finish in the 200 individual medley as she finished in a 2:06.88 completion time. 

The pre-mentioned relay team also earned a second place finish during the 400 medley relay, completing the event in a time of 3:55.08.

Saturday was then a day of preliminaries, as the teams were getting placement for Sunday's final day of competition. 

In the long distance, 1650 free race, Malin Hedberg (Vasteras, Sweden) came in at 17:50.44 to earn a second place finish to start Sunday for the Pioneers.  Hanes and Garriock also finished second in individual events, as the senior completed the 100 free in a time of 52.45 and the sophomore took a finishing time of 2:23.23 in the 200 breaststroke. 

The Pioneers mixed many different finishes to help earn the second place result, as the host, the College of New Jersey, earned 1218 points over the weekend to finish in first.  Randolph-Macon came in third, followed by Bridgeport, U.S. Merchant Marine, West Chester and rounding out the seven teams was Rowan.
