Box Score
MANCHESTER, N.H. (March 12, 2011) Junior attacker
Lauren Spagnoletta (East Islip, N.Y.) totaled 10 points, including a career-high 8 goals, while freshman attacker
Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) continued her impressive start to her collegiate career with and eight point effort, scoring four goals and tallying four assists to lead the third-ranked C.W. Post women's lacrosse team to a 24-16 non-conference victory over the Southern New Hampshire Penmen on Saturday afternoon.
C.W. Post improves to 2-0 on the season while SNHU evens its record to 2-2.
Also figuring into the scoring parade for the Pioneers was senior attacker
Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.), who scored three goals and added two assists. Sophomore midfielder
Abigail Ross (Rocky Point, N.Y.) checked in for three goals, while
BriAnn DeLutri (XX, N.Y.) added two goals. Junior midfielder
Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.) rounded out the offense with two assists and one score.
SNHU opened the game with three straight goals, two by Emily Mongeau, and had the Pioneers on their heels for the first five minutes of play. But C.W. Post came alive and responded with a six-goal spurt of their own – four by Spagnoletta – and took a 6-3 lead. The Penmen responded with three straight goals to tie the game at 6-6 at just over the midway point in the first half.
But C.W. Post took total control and blew open what was a tight game with a 10-0 run that saw Spagnoletta tally four scores and Ross pump in three, and heading into the halftime break, the Pioneers were owners of a 16-6 advantage.
The scoring parade continued for both teams as SNHU put up 10 second-half goals and C.W. Post pumped in eight more, but the advantage was too great and the Pioneers didn't allow the hosts to come any closer than a seven-point spread for the remainder of the contest.
Hannah Moriarty made 14 saves for SNHU in the loss, and the Penmen were led offensively by Emily Mongeau's seven goals and Ellie Morin's five scores.
In goal for CWP, sophomore
Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) stopped 12 shots in earning the victory.
The Pioneers have the next week off, before hosting third-ranked Lock Haven on Sunday, March 20 at 12 noon.
