Adelphi Slugs Past Baseball, 6-2
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 18, 2010) – The C.W. Post baseball team outhit the Adelphi Panthers on Friday afternoon, but all seven of Adelphi's hits went for extra bases, as they defeated the Pioneers 6-2 in non-conference action in Lantana, Fla.
C.W. Post slips to 1-15 with the loss.
AU plated its first run in the third inning as Lucas Romeo roped a one-out double to left and scored on Omar Velazquez's two-out triple.
Back-to-back doubles to lead off the fifth inning got things started for the Panthers, who took advantage of an RBI double, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to push across four more runs.
The Panthers tacked on two more runs in the eighth on an RBI double and a wild pitch.
The Pioneers attempted a comeback effort in the ninth, scoring two runs on
Casey McKay's (North Massapequa, N.Y.) double to left field. But CWP fell short as they were shut down by Robert Nixon's complete game effort as he struck out ten batters and scattered eight hits.
Freshman starter
#P.J. Jennings# (Morris Plains, N.J.) went 4.1 innings and struck out four, giving up five hits. Sophomore
Josh Laufer (Northport, N.Y.) came on in relief and gave up just two hits in 3.2 innings, striking out five batters.
McKay and freshman
Ryan Sloane (Westbury, N.Y.) each had two hits for C.W. Post in the loss.
C.W. Post takes on Franklin Pierce tomorrow at noon as the Pioneers close out their Florida trip at the Palm Beach Challenge.
