YAPHANK, N.Y. (March 4, 2010) –
The C.W. Post baseball team had a tough afternoon, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to the Southern New Hampshire Penmen, 9-0 and 4-1, in non-conference baseball action at Baseball Heaven.

C.W. Post slipped to 0-6 on the season while SNHU evened its record at 3-3 overall.

In game one, sophomore second baseman Casey McKay (Massapequa, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 accounting for the majority of the Pioneers four hits.

The Penmen took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as a walk, sacrifice bunt and RBI double accounted for the first run, and a fielder's choice plated the second for the visitors. Starting pitcher Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.) went 4.1 innings and gave up only two earned runs, striking out seven and allowing four hits while issuing three walks, but a six-run fifth inning did all the damage the Penmen would need as starter Bryant Gauthier went seven innings for the victory, striking out six and allowing only three hits and walking one.

Game two saw a strong effort by Pioneer starter Glen Hudson (Sayville, N.Y.), who kept the Penmen scoreless through five innings, including working out of a one-out bases loaded jam by inducing two strikeouts in the third inning.

The Pioneers carried a 1-0 lead into the fifth, but SNHU took advantage of a leadoff base runner reaching on an error, followed by a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch. The run came into score on a single through the right side, and another run came around on another RBI single to right field, giving SNHU a 2-1 lead.

The visitors tacked on two more runs in the sixth, taking advantage of two Pioneer errors and a hit batsman. C.W. Post could not generate any comeback offense in the sixth or seventh as they fell in game two.

The Pioneers continue to look for their first wins in 2011 as they host Franklin Pierce on both Saturday and Sunday in 1 p.m. doubleheaders at Baseball Heaven.
