Baseball Falls to Franklin Pierce, 8-3
YAPHANK, N.Y. (March 6, 2011) – The C.W. Post baseball team dropped a non-conference contest to sixth-ranked Franklin Pierce, losing 8-3 on Sunday morning at Baseball Heaven.
C.W. Post falls to 0-9 with the loss, while Franklin Pierce improves to 9-0.
Franklin Pierce took a 2-0 lead in the first, as Mike Dowd stroked a two-out double into right center and came around to score on a single that was misplayed into a two-base error. An RBI single through the right side plated another Raven run.
FPU doubled their lead on a two-run homerun by Derek Ingui in the third inning.
In the bottom half of the third, C.W. Post came alive at the plate and pushed across two runs as sophomore second baseman
Steve Mare (Whitestone, N.Y.) led off with a walk and moved to second after junior left fielder
Matt Simone (West Islip, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third, sophomore catcher
Anthony Corona roped a single into left field to drive home two runs.

Casey McKay (Massapequa, N.Y.), made the score 5-3 in favor of the Ravens.
Another FPU run in the eighth and two more in the ninth gave Pierce the 8-3 final score.
McKay picked up two hits on the day for the Pioneers.
Senior designated hitter Ingui went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, driving in three runs while scoring three times, and junior catcher Dowd went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and three runs scored.
Sophomore right-hander
Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) took the loss for the Pioneers, giving up five runs on seven hits, striking out six through five innings.
