Budkevics, Chenicek Power Baseball To 5-2 Win Over Caldwell

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 9, 2011)
– Junior pitcher Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.) tossed eight complete innings with seven strikeouts as C.W. Post earned its first win of the season by defeating Caldwell College, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference baseball.
 
C.W. Post improves to 1-9 on the season while Caldwell slips to 1-3.
 
Sophomore third baseman Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) led the Pioneers offensively, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored.
 
Caldwell scored the game's first run in the top of the first when centerfielder Jorge Ynoa singled to left field to score Joe Doerrer.
 
The Pioneers were held scoreless until the fourth inning when they scored three that included a two-run triple. Chenicek came around to score on a sacrifice fly when freshman shortstop Tom Tolan (Malverne, N.Y.).
 
C.W. Post added two more in the sixth, beginning when freshman first baseman #P.J. Jennings# (Morris Plains, N.J.) scored from third on a wild pitch.  The second run was scored when Chenicek scored on an infield fielding error.
 
The Cougars got one run back in the top of the eighth when second baseman Paul Nyitray scored on a ground out to shortstop.
 
Budkevics finished the game with seven strikeouts and allowed two earned runs on eight hits and three walks. Junior Glen Hudson (West Sayville, N.Y.) earned the save after pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts.
 
Ynoa and first baseman Juan Mejia each batted 2-for-4 with an RBI.
 
C.W. Post is back in action on Friday when it hosts Dominican College at 3 p.m.
