No. 3 Women's Lacrosse Defeats Georgian Court 16-5 in Season Opener

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 9, 2011) - Freshman attacker
Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) made an immediate impact in her first collegiate game, scoring three goals and adding four assists, leading an offensive effort that was spread out between seven Pioneers as the third-ranked C.W. Post women's lacrosse team rolled to a season-opening 16-5 victory over Georgian Court on Wednesday afternoon on Hickox Field.
The Pioneers open the season with a 1-0 record while Georgian Court slid to 0-3.
The hosts opened the scoring just three minutes into play as
Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y) scored an unassisted goal to give CWP a 1-0 lead. Midfielder
Brie-Claire Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) scored her lone goal of the afternoon less than two minutes later, taking a Sileo assist and converting for a 2-0 lead.
GCU's Lauren Conaty scored the first of her four goals on the afternoon and cut the lead in half at 23:02, but C.W. Post quickly reeled off five goals in the next ten minutes, as junior midfielder
Ashley Janelli (Glen Head, N.Y.) scored two of the five goals, while Sileo and
Abbie Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) each added a goal. Junior
Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals at 10:03 and 8:08 to give the Pioneers an 8-1 advantage.
Spagnoletta and Sileo scored a goal apiece to give the Pioneers a 10-1 advantage before another Conaty goal cut the Pioneer lead to 10-2 at the half.
Spagnoletta opened the second half with two goals, followed by a Sileo tally at 26:18 and the Pioneers led 13-2. Conaty scored again, but Ross answered right back with a goal at 23:23. Two more CWP and GCU goals rounded out the scoring for the afternoon as the Pioneers rode out the 16-5 victory.
Spagnoletta's four goals led the squad, followed by Sileo and Janelli with three scores apiece. Sileo also added four assists, while freshman
Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) added three assists. Drost and freshman
Samantha Losco (Smithtown, N.Y.) each added a goal and an assist, while Ross added two goals and an assist. Mayott tallied two goals, and
Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.) added two assists to the offensive efforts.
Conaty scored four goals to lead GCU.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the effort, allowing five goals. Lion keeper Jennifer Molzon made one save in the loss before giving way to Jillian Pennington, who made two saves in 19:01 minutes of play.
The Pioneers travel to Southern New Hampshire on Saturday for a noon matchup against the Penmen.
