Joe Mare to Be Featured on "Heroes on Long Island" Tuesday Night
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 18, 2011) – Third baseman and Graduate Student Joe Mare (Whitestone, N.Y.) of the C.W. Post baseball team will be featured on “Heroes on Long Island” this Tuesday, April 19th. The show is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. on Tuesday on Verizon Fios Channel 1.
Mare, who was a three year player on the Pioneer baseball team from 2005-2007, made a comeback this year to earn a roster spot for the 2011 season and his story will be told during the Fios program.
The Whitestone native will be featured on the program because of his improbable comeback to the baseball diamond after a serious injury back in 2008, right before his senior season was about to begin. Mare has fought back to make his way back to the Pioneer baseball family and has made several appearances during the current season.
During his freshman through junior seasons of 2005-07, Mare had a career average of .363 starting in 88 games for C.W. Post while playing in 100 in those three years. His junior year of 2007 was the best of the three with the third baseman hitting .402 in the season on school-record 82 hits that included 17 doubles, six homeruns, and 51 RBIs. For his effort during the 2007 season, Mare earned NCBWA Honorable Mention All-America selection, ABCA/Rawlings All-Region second-team, Daktronics All-Region first-team, and All-East Coast conference second-team.
