Box Score
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (April 20, 2011) – Mercy College handed C.W. Post baseball team a 7-4 loss on Wednesday afternoon, helped by timely hitting and poor fielding from the Pioneers in the opening game of the five game East Coast Conference series between the Mavericks and the Pioneers.
C.W. Post slid to 7-26, 5-10 in conference play, while Mercy pushes to 13-17 overall and 6-9 in ECC action.
A four-run fourth for Mercy gave the Mavericks the first lead of the game, as two singles and a walk loaded the bases against CWP hurler
Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.), followed by an infield error, another walk, and a two run single to right field by John Casten.
The Pioneers scored a run in the sixth, as third baseman
Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) singled to center to lead off the inning and scored on
Rich Maccarone's (Glen Cove, N.Y.) fielder's choice RBI.
But Mercy tallied another run in the sixth, followed by two in the eighth to open up a 7-1 lead over the Pioneers, and despite a three-run ninth inning comeback effort, C.W. Post fell by a 7-4 final.
Budkevics took the loss with six innings of work, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out five before giving way to reliever
Connor McCarthy (Westbury, N.Y.), who worked two innings and allowed two runs (one earned).
C.W. Post returns to action tomorrow as it hosts Mercy for game two of the series.
