No. 1 Adelphi Powers Past No. 8 Women's Lacrosse

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 19, 2011) – Adelphi's Claire Petersen racked up four goals and five assists as she led the top-ranked Panthers to a 19-7 victory over No. 8 C.W. Post women's lacrosse on Friday afternoon in non-conference action on Hickox Field.
C.W. Post falls to 10-3 overall, while Adelphi remains perfect on the season at 13-0.
The Panthers scored just 44 seconds into the game as Elizabeth Fey took a Petersen assist and converted for the goal. The Pioneers tied the game up at 27:18 when
Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) scored off a
Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.) feed.
AU scored twice, at 26:58 and 20:17, to take a 3-1 lead, before
Abbie Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) scored off another Fucich pass at 17:07 to keep the game close, 3-2.
But two more Adelphi goals pushed the Panther advantage to 5-2, before
Lauren Spagnoletta's (West Islip, N.Y.) tally at 7:49 made the score 5-3.
However, the Panthers closed out the half with two more goals, giving the Pioneers a 7-3 deficit heading into the break.
Adelphi scored yet again just under 50 seconds into the half, as Kaitlyn Carter registered an unassisted goal.
But C.W. Post found a spark and scored back to back goals, as Spagnoletta connected with
Brie Claire Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) at 27:33, and Fucich hooked up with
Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.) at 25:49 to pull the Pioneers to within three goals, 8-5.
The squads traded goals, with Fucich scoring on a free position at 21:48 to keep the Panthers within three, but Adelphi went on a 10-0 run that lasted almost 15 minutes pushed the Panther lead to 19-6 before Mayott scored to break up the run and give the Pioneers their final goal of the day.
C.W. Post's offensive efforts were paced by Mayott's two goals, along with Fucich's one goals and three assists. Sileo also tallied one goal and one assist.
For Adelphi, in addition to Petersen's big game, Devan Crimi scored four goals, Marissa Mills scored three with one assist, Elizabeth Fey tallied two and one assist, and Meg Brown scored twice.
In goal for C.W. Post,
Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) took the loss, posting seven saves. Spagnoletta grabbed seven draw controls on the day, and
Chelsea Donaldson (Bay Shore, N.Y.) picked up four ground balls.
AU goalkeeper Frankie Caridi made nine stops in earning her 13th victory of the season.
C.W. Post returns to ECC play as the Pioneers travel to Mercy on April 26 for a 4 p.m. contest.
