No. 8 Women's Lacrosse Stymies Mercy, 18-2

PURCHASE, N.Y. (April 26, 2011) - Lauren Spagnolettta (West Islip, N.Y.) racked up four goals to lead No. 8 women's lacrosse to its sixth straight East Coast Conference victory on Tuesday afternoon, topping Mercy College 18-2.
The Pioneers improve to 11-3 overall and remain unbeaten in ECC action at 6-0, while Mercy moves to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Spagnoletta netted a game-high four goals to pace C.W. Post, which has won 13 straight ECC matchup dating back to the 2009 season.
Abigail Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) tallied a hat trick and two assists and
Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.) added two goals and two assists totaling four points, and
Morgan Chiarenza (Nesconset, N.Y.) added two goals to the offensive onslaught for C.W. Post.
The Pioneers wasted no time in exhibiting their high-powered attack as Spagnoletta opened the game by pumping in three goals, netting a hat trick before the Mavericks even got on the board. Fucich scored at 25:06 to increase the lead to 4-0, followed by two from Ross and another by Spagnoletta to make the lead 7-0.
Mercy's Kelsey Bub scored the icebreaker for Mercy at 19:53, but the Pioneers closed out the half with three more scores, and Mercy scored an own goal with just under ten minutes to play, giving C.W. Post an 11-1 advantage and a running clock heading into halftime.
The Pioneers continued their relentless defense in the second half, limiting the Mavericks to just nine looks at goal and 14 shots for the entire game.
Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) was strong in the cage, making five saves in 39:51 before giving way to
Sam Powers (Mattituck, N.Y.) who made three stops in the remaining 20:09 of play.
C.W. Post outscored the Mavericks 7-1 in the second half to finish off Mercy by a final score of 18-2.
The Pioeers next host non-conference Merrimack on Saturday, April 30 at 10 a.m.
