BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 3, 2011)  - Led by junior attacker Lauren Spagnoletta's (West Islip, N.Y.) five scores, six Pioneers scored multiple goals to lead the fifth-ranked women's lacrosse team past Bentley, 19-9, in a non-conference clash on Sunday afternoon on Hickox Field.
At halftime, the women's lacrosse program honored its 2001 team for the 10 year anniversary of the 2001 National Championship victory.
C.W. Post improves to 4-1 overall while Bentley slides to 3-5 overall.
Spagnoletta finished with five goals and two assists on the day, while senior attacker Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.) contributed two goals and four assists. Freshman attacker Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) scored three goals and added two assists, while Abbie Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.) each scored three goals. Freshman Kathleen Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with two goals.
C.W. Post opened the game with a 9-0 run that had the Pioneers firmly in control, with Spagnoletta, Mayott and Sileo each accounting for two scores during the run.   But over the last 10 minutes of the first period, Bentley found some rhythm on offense that saw them outscore the hosts by a 4-2 count, with Megan Wiggins scoring all four Bentley goals, and cut the lead to 11-4 heading into the halftime break.
The second half opened with two Bentley goals, but C.W. Post scored four straight in under a five minute span and pushed the lead back to 15-6.
Bentley did not give up, and answered with three straight of their own, but four Pioneer scores to close out the game provided more than enough firepower especially with sophomore goalkeeper Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) coming up with several big stops and accounting for 12 saves on the day. Senior goalkeeper Samantha Powers (Mattituck, N.Y.) played the last five and a half minutes of the game and made three stops while not allowing a goal.
The Pioneers host the final game of their three-game home stand on Wednesday as New Haven travels to Hickox Field for a 4 p.m. contest.
