No. 8 Women's Lacrosse Routs St. Thomas Aquinas, 20-2

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 4, 2011) –
A four-goal, four-assist effort from Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) helped fuel No. 8 C.W. Post as it dominated St. Thomas Aquinas, 20-2, at home in East Coast Conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.
C.W. Post improved to 13-3 and 7-0 in ECC play, heading into Saturday's matchup with Dowling, also undefeated in ECC play for the conference title. STAC slid to 4-8, 2-5 in conference play. 
Sileo's four goals were a season-high for the freshman, who was backed by three goals and two assists by Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.), along with two goals apiece from Abigail Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.), Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.), Samantha Losco (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Brie-Claire Drost (Wading River, N.Y.). Morgan Chiarenza (Nesconset, N.Y.) added three assists and Ross and Spagnoletta each notched two helpers.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the contest was even one minute old, and quickly pushed the advantage to 1-01 and a running clock by the midway mark of the first half.

With a 14-0 lead heading into halftime, the Pioneers played a possession game for much of the second half, while holding the Spartans to just five shots (seven for the game). The Pioneers turned the ball over only 13 times, including only five in the second half, while winning 16 draw controls and going a perfect 10-of-10 in clear attempts. C.W. Post picked up 24 ground balls to 21 for the Spartans.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) was strong in the cage for the Pioneers, making two saves in earning the victory, giving way late in the second half to Sam Powers (Mattituck,N.Y.) who played the final 9:31, allowing two goals.

Anne Buttafuoco scored both goals for St. Thomas Aquinas.

C.W. Post closes out the season on Saturday against Dowling at 1:30 as the Pioneers will also recognize their seniors prior to the contest.
