Volleyball Splits Final Day at Ram Fest
WEST CHESTER, PA. (Sept. 10, 2011) – After going 2-0 the first day at the West Chester Ram Fest volleyball tournament, the C.W. Post volleyball team split the two games on Saturday. The Pioneers remain at .500 with a 4-4 overall record thus far in the young season.
The first game of the day saw the Pioneers take a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-17) sweep victory over Chestnut Hill. C.W. Post was able to use defense as a drive for offense in the win, as the team combined to produce 42 digs and 11.5 total team blocks.
Laura Garbarino (Nutley, N.J.) led the Pioneers at the net as she tallied seven solo blocks in the three games of the match.
Shayla Hixson (Honolulu, Hawaii) controlled 11 digs to lead the Pioneers in the category.
Offensively,
Jordan Schroer (Kailua, Hawaii) was the lone Pioneers to reach double figure kill numbers with 10 kills.
Kaiulani Kaalekahi (Waimanaio, Hawaii) put down five service aces along with her 22 assists to really propel the Pioneer offense.
In the tournament finale, the Pioneers met with Stonehill College for the second time this year. Last weekend in Kutztown, Stonehill was able to take a 3-0 victory over the Pioneers.
The Pioneers managed to win the first set of this match, however, Stonehill took the next three to earn the victory, 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 10-25, 12-25). Stonehill caused 38 Pioneer attacking errors while also establishing 14 total team blocks to help put a stop to a Pioneer offense that was very much in sync in the first game of the day.
The Pioneers were able to remain in the game with some defense of their own as the team totaled 52 digs nine total team blocks. Three Pioneers figured into double digit dig numbers, led by
Emily Hoehn's 18.
Hixson was a bright spot for the offense, as she was the only Pioneer to reach 10 kills. She also added six services aces to help create some offense.
C.W. Post will not be back in action until this Friday, Sept. 16, with Franklin Pierce coming to the Pratt Center for a 7 p.m. non-conference match. This will be the last home game for the Pioneers for over a two week period.
