Delfs' 22 Kills Leads Pioneers To Two Wins On The Afternoon

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 13, 2012) – Senior Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y) tallied 22 kills on the afternoon to lead the LIU Post volleyball team to two wins Saturday.  The Pioneers were able to grab three straight set wins to beat Dowling College 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-17) in the first match, and LIU Post outlasted Stonehill College with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18) victory for its second match of the afternoon.

LIU Post improves to 15-10 (5-3 ECC), Stonehill falls to 10-9 (4-3 NE-10), and Dowling drops to 14-8 (3-4 ECC).
First set action was dominated by the Pioneers with Delfs knocking down six kills, and Susy Cricchi (Borgovelino, Rieti, Italy) adding four of her own.  Freshman Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) tossed up a set high seven assists for the Pioneers.  Freshman Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the way for the Pioneers with five digs. Dowling freshmen Jessica Kalbfleisch and Franki Dove led the squad with three kills apiece for the set. Senior Morgan Mutranowski recorded the set high with a dig total of seven.  The Pioneers took the set 25-21.
Dowling made the second set a little more interesting, but were not able to prevail against the Pioneers who took the set 25-23.  Cricchi led all players on the court with six kills and three block assists, and Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy) registered a set high eight assists for LIU Post.  The Golden Lions' Elizabeth Gorman and Kalbfleisch added three kills each.

With the win insight, the Pioneers would not let their guard down taking the third and final set 25-17.  Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) led the Pioneers with three kills, and Amador tossed up a set high five assists.  Dowling's Bethany Shepard knocked down six of her eight kills in the final set.  Mutranowski once again scooped up the set-high of digs with eight.

The Pioneers finished the match with 11 total blocks, with Cricchi having a hand in seven.  She also led the way for the Pioneers with 10 kills.  Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) and Delfs added nine kills apiece.  Amador led all players with 15 total assists, and Centro tossed up 13 of her own. 
Dowling's Mutranowski recorded the match-high dig total with 18, while teammate Shepard knocked down eight kills to lead the Golden Lions. 

The Pioneers were determined to defend their home court and win both matches on the afternoon.  During the second game, Stonehill and LIU Post battled back and forth throughout each set with each coming down to the wire.

The Pioneers were able to take both the first and second sets with scores of 25-21 in both sets.  Delfs tallied five kills in the first set to lead all players, and Amador tossed up a Pioneer-high six assists.  The Skyhawks' Emily Iverson recorded a set-high nine assists in the first set.  Namahoe led the way for the Pioneers in the second set tallying five kills, while teammates Centro dropped eight assists and Ringor scooped up 11 digs.  Iverson improved upon her first set assist total with 10 in the second set for Stonehill.

The Skyhawks were able to take the third set 25-22 to force a fourth set.  Stonehill's Sydney Maxey led all players with five kills in the set, and Iverson upped her previous assist total by three to record 13 in the third set.  LIU Post freshman Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had a Pioneer-high four kills in the set.

Never backing down, LIU Post took the fourth and final set by a score of 25-18.  Freshman Harlee Meyers (Kailua, Hawaii) and Namahoe led all players with four kills each.  Seven Pioneers recorded at least one dig in the set.

Namahoe registered her thirteenth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 19 digs against Stonehill.  Ringor scooped up a Pioneer-high 23 digs during the match.  Stonehill's Iverson accumulated 39 assists, and Erin Kelly tallied 24 total digs.

On the afternoon, Delfs tallied 22 kills and four solo blocks.  Namahoe added 20 kills and 27 digs.  Ringor scooped up a total 33 digs, and Amador led the Pioneers with 34 assists.

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, Oct. 16 as they host conference-foe NYIT at 7 p.m. in the Pratt Recreation Center.
