Adams Tallies 12 Kills As Volleyball Downs NYIT 3-0 On "Dig Pink" Night

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.  (Oct. 16, 2012) – Sophomore middle blocker Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) knocked down 12 kills to lead the LIU Post volleyball team to the 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-18) sweep over neighbor and East Coast Conference rival New York Institute of Technology as the teams promoted “Dig Pink.”  The Pioneers were able to raise $185.00 to help support breast cancer awareness.

LIU Post extends its win streak to five games, with four of the five victories coming against ECC opponents.  The Pioneers improve their record to 16-10 (6-3 ECC), while NYIT falls to 13-5 (5-2 ECC).

The Pioneers jumped out to a good start, taking the first set by a score of 25-17.  Adams led all players in the first set with four total kills and three service aces.  Freshman Harlee Meyers (Kailua, Hawaii) scooped up a set-high five digs.  Shelby Cable led the Bears with three first-set kills.

The Bears made the second set a little closer, but the Pioneers were able to pull out the second set victory 25-20.  Adams once again was the kill leader for LIU Post with three.  Freshman Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) led all players on the court with a set-high six digs.  Cable and Savannah Donarski each had four kills for the Bears.

LIU Post made quick work of the Bears, taking the third set 25-18 to wrap up the three set sweep.  The Pioneers tallied four total blocks in the third set.  Adams led the Pioneers in total kills for the third straight set, this time with five.  Ringor matched her second set dig total of six in the third set.  Cable also had five kills for the Bears.

The Pioneers took advantage of poor NYIT communication by registereing nine service aces and seven total blocks.  Sophomore Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy) led the Pioneers with 18 total assists.  Ringor and Meyers tallied double-digit dig totals for LIU Post, scooping up 15 and 10, respectively.

NYIT's Shelby Cable tied Adam's kill total of 12, and Marija Jovanovic tossed up a match-high 27 assists.

The Pioneers look to extend their five game win streak as they host ECC foe Molloy College Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Pratt Recreation Center.
