Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches At Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. (Oct. 20, 2012) – The LIU Post volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches this afternoon.  The Pioneers defeated Southern Connecticut State University 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 27-25) in the first game, but dropped the second match to host Franklin Pierce University 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 29-27, 22-25, 15-17).  Senior middle blocker Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 41 kills on the afternoon.

LIU Post snaps its win streak at seven with a record of 18-11 (7-3 ECC), Southern Connecticut State University 19-7 (7-4 NE-10), and Franklin Pierce is now 12-12 (5-2 NE-10).

Delfs led the Pioneers to the 3-1 win over Southern Connecticut with 17 kills and four block assists.  Sophomore Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) registered a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs and added a solo block.  Freshman Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) scooped up a match-high 27 digs.  Sophomore Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy) tossed up a match-high 33 assists.  The Pioneers were once again a presence at the net with nine total team blocks.

Jade Black registered a double-double for the Owls tallying 15 kills and 12 digs.

The Ravens just barely outlasted the Pioneers with a 3-2 win during the second match of the day, with the two teams grinding out a five-set match.  Once again, Delfs led the attack for the Pioneers smashing 24 kills, a season-high for her.  Delfs added four solo blocks and three block assists making her an integral part in the Pioneers recording their thirteenth match on the season with at least ten blocks (13).  Junior Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) registered her 15th double-double of the season with a season-high kill total of 22 and also 18 digs.  Four other Pioneers tallied at least 10 digs, with Ringor once again leading the way with 23.  Centro and freshman Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) combined for 60 assists, 32 and 28 respectively. 

Three Ravens tallied at least ten kills, while Stephanie Svorinic was the assist leader with 36.  Lauren Miller and Natasha Ray registered 25 and 24 digs each.

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, Oct. 23 as they host fellow ECC member Mercy College at 7 p.m. in the Pratt Recreation Center.
