Army Edges Out Women's Swimming, 142-137

WEST POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 17, 2012) - Five new school records were established Saturday afternoon as the LIU Post women's swim team won nine of 16 events, however Army was able to accumulate more points during the meet with a 142-137 victory.
Freshman
Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) set new pool and Pioneer records with a 53.93 NCAA 'A' cut time in the 100-yard butterfly and an 'A' cut time of 2:00.16 in the 200-yard butterfly. Kwok also raced as part of two relay teams that set new Pioneer records. The 200-yard medley relay team of Kwok,
Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden),
Tamara Garriock (Duncan, British Columbia), and
Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) finished the race with a time of 1:44.33, good for an NCAA 'B' cut. Kwok, Garriock, Soerensen, and
Courtney Delehanty teamed up to notch a school record with a 'B' cut time of 7:42.03 in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Pettersson also notched a personal best time in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing first in the event with a 'B' cut time of 2:03.10. She was able to edge out teammate
Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) in the 100-yard backstroke, with times of 57.55 and 58.09, respectively.
Garriock grabbed two individual first place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle with a finishing time of 1:51.87, and the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:23.58.
Senior
Sandra Luiga (Jarfalla, Sweden) grabbed the final first place finish for the Pioneers in the 100-yard breaststroke, slapping the wall after 1:08.33 just three-tenths of a second ahead of second place finisher Samantha Allen of Army (1:08.61). Despite finishing in second place in the 400-yard individual medley relay, Luiga set a school record with her finishing time of 4:37.85.
The Pioneers will return to action after the holiday break at the TCNJ Winter Invitational in Ewing, N.J. Nov. 30-Dec. 2.
