Women's Basketball Downs Deacons, 72-65

Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) scored 15 points to lead the LIU Post women's basketball team to a 72-65 win over visiting Bloomfield College Saturday afternoon in the Pratt Recreation Center.
LIU Post improves to 6-2, while Bloomfield drops to 7-4.
Seniors
Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) and
Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) joined Peters as the three Pioneers to score in double figures with the two seniors scoring 14 apiece. Senior
Samantha Kopp (Franklinville, N.Y.) was a defensive force for the Pioneers grabbing a Pioneer-high 13 boards and swatting four blocks while adding eight points on the afternoon.
The Deacon's Iliriana Lulgjuraj led all players with 20 points, and Shaniqua Bacote grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Pioneers finished the game shooting .444 (24-54) from field goal range, including 5-11 from downtown and .576 (19-33) from the free throw line. The Deacons shot .325 (25-77) from field goal range, .333 (5-15) from three point range, and .588 (10-17) from the charity stripe.
The first half proved to be a back-and-forth battle the entire 20 minutes with Bloomfield just slightly outscoring the turnover plagued Pioneers 37-34. The Pioneers hit 4-5 from beyond the arc in the half including Caggiano draining 3-3 and
Jalyn Brown (Riverhead, N.Y.) hitting her only trey she tossed up. Peters led the Pioneers with 12 total points in the first half with Caggiano right behind her contributing 11 points to the Pioneer offense. Lulgjuraj led the Deacons with 11 points in the first half.
The Pioneer offense woke up in the second half, leading by as many as 10 points on two separate occasions. Marciniak scored 12 of her 14 total points in the second half to lead the Pioneer charge. LIU Post outscored Bloomfield 38-28 in the second half to secure the 72-65 victory.
The Pioneers return to action tomorrow for the second half of their Winter Classic facing off against Southern New Hampshire University at 3 p.m. in the Pratt Recreation Center.
