Women's Basketball Set To Travel To Dowling On Tuesday

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 4, 2012) – The LIU Post women's basketball team is set to face East Coast Conference rival Dowling College in Golden Lions' Gymnasium on Tuesday, Dec. 4.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.

The LIU Post women's basketball team has enjoyed a hot start to the season, currently owning a 4-0 record, including a 1-0 start in conference play.  The Pioneers were host to the University of Bridgeport over the weekend and picked up their first ECC victory with the 73-68 win over the Purple Knights.

Senior forward Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) leads the Pioneers in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game, good for third best in the ECC, with a shooting percentage of .574 (27-47) from field goal range.  She has also grabbed an average of 8.5 rebounds per game.  Sophomore guard Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) is close behind Marciniak in scoring, currently averaging 14.8 points per game, while senior guard Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) continues her consistent play averaging 12.5 points per game.  Caggiano is currently shooting a conference best .636 (21-33) from field goal range, including 6-12 from beyond the arc, while also leading the squad in assists by dishing out 4.3 per game.  The leader on the glass for the Pioneers, senior forward Samantha Kopp (Franklinville, N.Y.) currently averages a conference-high 11.0 boards per game. Kopp has also been a defensive force by averaging 3.5 blocks per game.

The Dowling women are currently on a four game win streak after starting off the season with a 70-68 loss to No. 21 Southern Connecticut State University.  The most recent win for the Golden Lions was a 64-42 victory over ECC foe St. Thomas Aquinas College.
Dowling's senior forward Danielle Wilson is currently averaging a double-double with 18.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.  She currently leads the conference with 4.2 blocks per game.  Senior guard Connie Simmons and junior forward Julia Koppl round out the three Golden Lions averaging double-digit point totals with 11.0 and 10.4, respectively.  Simmons is also leading the squad in assists, averaging 3.8 per game.  Defensively, Dowling has allowed just 49.8 points per game while scoring 61.2 for a +11.4 point differential.
