Gaffney Named Interim Head Baseball Coach

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 1, 2012) – C.W. Post Director of Athletics Bryan Collins has appointed Bill Gaffney as interim head coach of the baseball team.  Gaffney, who has been involved with the program as an assistant for the last seven seasons, is a veteran coach with experience on both the collegiate and summer league levels. He assumes the interim head coach position following the resignation of head coach Pete Timmes on January 31, who left the position for personal reasons.

Gaffney's tenure as an assistant has seen the Pioneers win two East Coast Conference Championships, post two 30-win seasons, and advance to the 2011 NCAA Regionals. 
 
From 1982-84, he was an assistant coach for the Adelphi Panthers, helping the team to a berth in the 1982 Northeast Regionals. He also was a coach for the Long Island Red Sox summer league team from 1995-03.

During his playing days, Gaffney was selected in the 19th round of the 1979 draft and played two seasons in the Seattle Mariners organization.

Gaffney and his wife, Maureen, a senior Vice President at Winthrop University Hospital, live in Westbury, N.Y., and are the parents of three sons: Mike, who played five years in the Kansas City Royals farm system; Kevin, a graduate of LaSalle University; and Scott, who played five years in the Cincinnati Reds organization; along with a daughter, Laura, a graduate of Bloomsburg University.
