First Day of Metropolitan Championships in the Books for Women's Swimming
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 17, 2012) – The first day of the Metropolitan Championships started with five finals events for the women's swim team of C.W. Post on Friday.
Things started out strong for the Pioneers, as the first event featured a first place finish. During the 200 free relay, the relay team 'A' of C.W. Post was composed of
Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden),
Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.),
Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada), and
Mairi Morrison (Carnock, Scotland). The foursome earned a NCAA 'B' cut with a 1:35.84 finish.
Garriock then earned a 'B' cut as an individual as she finished the 500 free in a time of 5:01.29.
Chelcee Hew (Savage, Minn.) and
Sandra Luiga (Jarfalla, Sweden) each participated in the 'A' final of the 200 individual medley. Hew finished fifth with her 2:11.58 time while Luiga registered a 2:15.21 time to come in eighth during the heat. In the same event during the 'B' heat,
Catriona Laird (Saline, Scotland) finished with a time of 2:15.20.
Hanes took a NCAA 'B' cut with a 23.71 finish during the 50 free, coming in at third place in the 'A' heat. In that same heat, Delehanty came in at eighth place with a 24.87 time. During the 'B' heat of the event, Morrison earned a 24.45 time while
Johanna Pettersson (Kunglav, Sweden) came in at 24.66 and Luiga clocked a 25.37 time.
The final event for the first day of the championships was the 400 medley relay event. The C.W. Post team of Pettersson, Garriock, Hanes and Morrison finished the 'A' heat with a third place time of 4:00.06.
Things will get started once again on Saturday with preliminaries in the morning followed by finals in the evening.
