MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Feb. 24, 2012) - Junior pitcher
Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.) pitched a complete game with ten strikouts, and three different Pioneers drove in runs to help the C.W. Post baseball team win its season opener against West Virginia Wesleyan, 3-0. In game two of the doubleheader,
Gabriel Santos (Jamaica, N.Y.) went 4-for-4 with two homeruns and six RBI to help the Pioneers to a season-opening sweep.
The Pioneers are now 2-0 overall while WVW is 0-2 to start the season.
Budkevics struck out ten batters in seven innings, while
Nick Compito (Jericho, N.Y.),
Phil Loprete (Bellerose, N.Y.) and
Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) each knocked in a run.
Keith Herring (New York, N.Y.) and
Rich Maccarone (Glen Cove, N.Y.) each went 2-for-3.
In game two, Santos homered in the first and fourth innings and senior starter
James Stone (Massapequa, N.Y.) allowed only one run on three hits and struck out seven in five innings to earn the victory.
Connor McMcCarthy (Westbury, N.Y.) closed out the win, throwing a scoreless sixth and seventh.
Matt Simone (West Islip, N.Y.), Maccarone, and Chenicek each had two hits in the game, and
Anthony Corona (Carmel, N.Y.) hit a three-run home run.
The Pioneers continue action in Myrtle Beach tomorrow as they take on Felician at 1 p.m. and Concordia at 4 p.m.
