Baseball Selected Fifth in ECC Preseason Poll
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Feb. 8, 2012) – The C.W. Post baseball team was selected to finish fifth in the East Coast Conference for the 2012 season, as the preseason poll was released earlier today.
Topping the poll with 43 points and two first place votes was the Lions of Molloy. Following Molloy were two teams that each received 34 points as Dowling and Saint Thomas Aquinas accumulated these points behind two first place votes and one place vote respectively. The last two first place votes went to Bridgeport who landed in fourth with 33 points. The Pioneers came in fifth with 26 points followed by Mercy in sixth with 16 points and Queens completes out the poll in seventh with 10 points.
As far as individual awards for the preseason, Bridgeport senior first baseman Eric Schlitter has been selected as the 2012 Preseason Player of the Year and Molloy's Chuck Fontana, a senior, has been tabbed as Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
The Pioneers will begin 2012 in South Carolina for a five-game set, starting on Feb. 24 with a doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan College. The team will be highlighted by the return of 2011 ECC Second Team pitcher,
Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.), who will be starting the season as a junior. Junior catcher
Anthony Corona (Carmel, N.Y.) also returns after leading the team in RBIs last season.
