WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 12, 2012)
C.W. Post baseball had tough day in Florida as the Pioneers dropped both ends of a doubleheader, losing to Pace by an 11-1 final score, then dropping the nightcap to Stonehill, 10-4.

The Pioneers drop to 5-6 on the season.   Pace stands at 5-4 overall while Stonehill improves to 8-4.

Angel Pimentel (New York, N.Y.) got the Pioneers on the board in the first inning of game one as he singled, stole second, and advanced to third on back-to-back errors.

The Setters took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, with the big blow coming from Patrick Chaputian on a two-run single up the middle.

The Pioneers put a run on the board in the fourth as Matt Simone (West Islip, N.Y.) reached on a throwing error by the third baseman, stole second, then scored on a throwing error by the right fielder.

But Pace put the game out of reach with runs in the sixth and seventh, followed by a five-run eighth inning that capped the scoring.

James Stone (Massapequa, N.Y.) took the loss with six innings of work.  He allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out five batters.

Brian Sundberg was the winning pitcher, going five innings and allowing one unearned run on three hits.
Offensively, Rich Maccarone (Glen Cove, N.Y.) had two hits to lead the Pioneers

The Pioneers pushed across three runs in the second as Tolan and Jennings both drew one out walks and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch.  Vincent Iacono (West Islip, N.Y.) lined a single up the middle to drive in both runs, then came all the way around to score after Simone's grounder to the third baseman was misplayed.

Stonehill made it a 4-1 game in the bottom of the inning as Colin Shepard singled to centerfield, scoring Dan Fratus from third.

The Skyhawks scored two more in the bottom of the third to make it a one –run contest courtesy of a two-run double to right center by Fratus.

Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) came on in relief of Mike Eckerle (Hewlett, N.Y.), who threw 3.0 innings and gave up three runs on four hits, striking out two and walking four.  The Skyhawks touched Chenicek for two runs to take a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth as Michael White drove in two runs with a single to right field.

Chenicek loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth but worked out of trouble with a strikeout of Fratus and groundout by Billy Karalis.

The Pioneers put runners on first and third with no outs in the top of the seventh, but couldn't push across the tying run as Pimentel was caught stealing and Shepard worked out of the inning with a strikeout and a lineout.

Stonehill capitalized on four hits and two Pioneers errors to plate four runs in the bottom of the seventh and take a 9-4 lead.

C.W. Post continues its play tomorrow against Bentley at 2 p.m.
