Garriock Earns All-America Honors At Day Two Of NCAA Swimming Championships
MANSFIELD, Texas (March 15, 2012) – Completing day two at the NCAA Championships, the C.W. Post women's swimming team earned two relay All-American Honorable Mention as well as an All-America Honor for
Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada).
For the 200 free relay swim, the Pioneers earned a spot on the consolation final after swimming a 1:35.20 during the preliminaries this morning.
Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden),
Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden), Garriock, and
Mairi Morrison (Carnock, Scotland) returned during the finals to earn 10 team points with a 1:35.68 finishing time and qualify as All-America Honorable Mentions.
Garriock earned a spot in the championship finals in the 200 free after setting a new Pioneer record during the preliminary swim at a time of 1:50.92. She then garnered All-America honors with her seventh place time of 1:51.05.
After breaking the previous record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:52.45, the foursome then returned during the consolation finals to record a 3:51.56 to once again set a new record in the event and earning All-America Honorable Mention.
After two days of competition, the C.W. Post team has accumulated 40 points to place 17th thus far in the championships. One point separates Wayne State and Drury at the top of the standings, as the two teams end the day with 261 and 260 points respectively.
Day three will begin tomorrow morning with the preliminary races as Garriock kicks things off during the 500 free. Morrison and Pettersson then will take part in two separate heats of the 100 back to conclude the morning session.
