Rollins Overwhelms Baseball, 17-3

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 16, 2012) – The C.W. Post baseball team battled Rollins to a 2-2- tie through five innings, but fell victim to a strong offensive effort by the Tars, losing by a 17-3 final on Friday night.
Rollins improves to 17-6 while the Pioneers drop to 6-8.
C.W. Post took a 1-0 lead in the first on back-to-back one out singles by
Rich Maccarone (Glen Cove, N.Y) and
Matt Simone (West Islip, N.Y.).
Rollins tied the game on an RBI single up the middle by Zach Persky, but C.W. Post took the lead right back in the top of the second when
Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y. ) reached on an error and came around to score on a fielding error by the Rollins shortstop.
The Tars tied the game in the second as Josh Band scored on a passed ball.
The score remained deadlocked through five, until Rollins took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth following RBI from Mager and Band.
Maccarone smashed a solo homerun in the top of the sixth to make it a one-run game, but for the second day in a row, the Pioneers ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth as the Tars batted around to score eight runs on five hits and two errors.
Rollins added four more runs in the seventh on two hits and two errors, and capped the scoring with a home run in the eighth.
Maccarone was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored, roping a sixth inning solo home run.
Rafael Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) was the pitcher of record, going 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits.
Anthony Figliolia earned the win for Rollins as he went three innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Nick Adams finished 4-for-6 with three runs and two RBI.
The Pioneers wrap up their Florida trip tomorrow as they take on Bentley at 1 p.m.
