WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 17, 2012) – The Bentley Falcons pushed across four runs in the bottom of the third, and made the runs stand for a 4-2 victory over the C.W. Post baseball team on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers now stand at 6-9 on the season while Bentley improves to 8-10.
Sean Keady hit a one-out single to get things started for the Falcons in the bottom of the third. He advanced to second on a balk, stole third, and scored on Logan Gillis' RBI single to right center. A single by Lamarre Rey and a double by Bryant Johnson plated another run and put runners on second and third for Kevin Korwek, who stroked a two-out single to right field for the final two runs.
The Pioneers got on the board in the fourth as
Matt Simone (West Islip, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch and eventually came around to score on a fielding error by the Bentley infield.
The Pioneers added another run to make it a 4-2 ballgame in the eighth and
Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) pinch hit and reached on a fielding error by the pitcher.
Keith Herring (New York, N.Y.) doubled to left center to score Brunetti, but a groundout ended the inning.
Freshman
Joey Arena (Yorktown, N.Y.) was on the losing end of the decision, going six innings and allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out five. Rob Finneran earned his third win of the season with six innings of work, allowing one unearned run on five hits, striking out seven.
Herring had three hits, and
P.J. Jennings (Morris Plains, N.J.) had two hits to lead the Pioneers offensively.
The Pioneers wrap up their Florida trip and head home to begin a conference series with Bridgeport, traveling to Connecticut on Wednesday for a 3:30 contest.
