Baseball Falls to Bridgeport, 7-3

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (March 22, 2012) –
Bridgeport starter Matt Wing tossed a complete game, limiting the Pioneers to five hits as the C.W. Post baseball team dropped a 7-3 contest to the Purple Knights on Thursday evening at Harbor Yard. 

Bridgeport improves o 3-6 overall (0-1 in ECC play) while the Pioneers stand at 7-10 overall (1-0 in ECC play).

The Purple Knights staked a 3-0 lead in the first as Mike Olszyk and Zack Theulen drove in runs and another scored on a wild pitch.

The Pioneers got on the board in the third as Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.) tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a groundout to short.

C.W. Post tied the score in the sixth as Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) hit an RBI double and Phil Loprete (Bellerose, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to make it a 3-3 ballgame.

But Bridgeport put up three runs in the seventh as Theulen had another RBI single and Ryan Barba roped a two-run double to make the score 6-3. The Purple Knights capped the scoring with another run in the eighth for a 7-3 lead.

Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) got the loss, throwing 6.2 innings and allowing six runs on 11 hits with two walks and six strikeouts.  Rafael Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) threw an inning and a third in relief, allowing one earned run on three hits. 

Wing had a final line of 9.0 innings pitched, allowing three runs on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. 

C.W. Post travels to Queens for an ECC doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
