Pimental Drives In Five As Baseball Brushes Past Mercy, 11-6

Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.) drove in two runs with a double in the seventh inning that broke a 6-6 tie and spurred C.W. Post to an 11-6 win over Mercy College Friday afternoon in an East Coast Conference baseball clash at Maverick's Field.
C.W. Post improves to 13-10 overall and 5-0 in the ECC while Mercy drops to 4-17 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Mercy took a 1-0 lead on a groundout single in the bottom of the first from third baseman Ken Post.
The Pioneers answered with an RBI double from junior second baseman
Angel Pimental (New York, N.Y.) and an RBI single from sophomore designated hitter
Tom Tolan (Malverne, N.Y.).
C.W. Post added a run in the fourth on a fielder's choice from Pimental and added three more in the fifth on RBI singles from Iacono and Pimental.
Mercy rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 6-6 on a two RBI single from Andrew Bock followed by a two RBI triple from Ken Post. The fifth run came around on an overthrow to first from the shortstop that allowed a run to come in from third.
Iacono's double gave the lead back to C.W. Post and the visitors put three more runs on the board in the ninth on a fielder's choice RBI from freshman
Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) and a two RBI double from Pimental.
PImental led the team with five RBI and went 3-for-6 with a run scored. Iacono went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.
Sophomore
Mike Eckerle (Hewlett, N.Y.) got the win on the mound for the Pioneers and pitched two innings of shutout baseball with three strikeouts. Senior
Paul Bischoff (Levittown, N.Y.), who started the game, went five innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three. Junior
Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.) and junior
Anthony Zapulla (Staten Island, N.Y.) each threw an inning with a strikeout to close out the game.
Bock led the Mavericks at the plate, batting 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Joseph Pareres was charged with the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in two innings pitched. Starter Joe O'Neil threw for the first four innings and allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
C.W. Post is back at it against Mercy on Saturday, March 31 at 12 p.m.
