No. 3 Women's Lacrosse Runs Past Seton Hill, 21-5

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 31, 2012) - Junior attacker Abbie Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) scored a season-high six goals, while sophomore attacker Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) dished out six assists, leading the third-ranked C.W. Post women's lacrosse to a 21-5 victory over East Coast Conference opponent Seton Hill on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers improve to 5-1 overall (1-0 ECC) while the Griffins move to 7-2 overall, 0-1 in ECC play.
C.W. Post's Katie Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Pioneers at 26:57. Junior Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) scored on Sileo's first assist of the afternoon at 26:14 to put the hosts up 2-0. Rachel Hilbert scored on a free position for the Griffins to make the score 2-1 with 24:43 remaining. After almost eight scoreless minutes, the Pioneers offense kicked into gear, as Olen scored at 16:26, starting a run of seven straight goals, including three by Ross and two by Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.), that made the score 9-1 in favor of the Pioneers.
Emma Simmers and Hilbert struck for back-to-back goals and pulled the Griffins to 9-3, then Ross struck again, and Hilbert closed out the half with a SHU goal at 2:51 as the Pioneers led 10-4.
Olen started the scoring parade in the second half that saw the Pioneers go on another 7-0 run and take a 17-4 lead.
Hilbert scored again for the only tally of the half by the Griffins at 14:20. The Pioneers closed out the game with three straight goals – two by Jenna Pierro (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Alexis Newman (Medford Lakes, N.J.) who tallied her first collegiate goal.
Junior Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) made four saves in the win, playing 50:14 minutes. Kathleen Hannan (Gansevoort, N.Y.) played the final 9:46 and did not need to make a save to preserve a victory.
Ross, who led the way with six goals, also added an assist, while Sileo added three goals to her six helpers. Olen and Mayott each registered a hat-trick, while Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) and Samantha Losco (Smithtown, N.Y.) each scored a goal and added two assists.
Hilbert's four goals and one assists led Seton Hill.
The Pioneers remain at home as they host Lake Erie College tomorrow, Sunday April 1, at 12 noon.
