Box Score BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (April 10, 2012) –The Dowling Golden Lions fought back from being down 3-0 to earn a 5-3 win over the C.W. Post Pioneers today in East Coast Conference baseball action out at Dowling.

The Pioneers drop to an 8-4 conference record with the setback while seeing the team's overall record fall to 16-14.  Dowling improves to 8-4 in the ECC to tie C.W. Post in the standings and also improve to 19-12 thus far in the season.

Taking the early lead of 3-0, the Pioneers scored all three runs during the third and fourth innings of today's nine inning game.  With Gabriel Santos (Jamaica, N.Y.) on second base after a single and being bunted over, Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.) drove in his 12th RBI of the season with a single to right field, giving the Pioneers the 1-0 lead.

Santos then came up in the fourth to be a part of another run producing opportunity.  After a Keith Herring (New York, N.Y.) single that was then proceeded by a Rich Maccarone (Glen Cove, N.Y.) double, Santos drove in both runners with a single and gave C.W. Post a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning.

The designated hitter for Dowling, Matt Benedetto, got the Golden Lions on the board in the bottom half of the fourth on an RBI single that brought Joseph Candela around to score.  This was the first of two times that Benedetto drove in Candela on the afternoon.  The second time came during the sixth inning in which Benedetto singled again to drive in Candela to cut the Pioneer lead again at 3-2.  Dowling then evened the score at three runs a side after Benedetto scored on a J.C. Brandmaier single.

Dowling took the lead during the seventh inning on a wild pitch that scored Johnathon Cruz.  Benedetto knocked in his third run of the game and plated Andrew Abreu, who walked earlier, to give Dowling the 5-3 lead that lasted for the remaining innings.

The Pioneers had the bases loaded during the ninth inning after a single that was preceded and followed by two walks.  However, Anthony De La Rosa forced a ground out for Dowling to secure the conference win.

Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) pitched six and a third innings of work in the loss, as his record slipped to 2-3 on the season.  Over the six-plus innings, Chenicek struck out five and allowed 11 hits while being charged with two earned runs.  Joey Arena (Yorktown, N.Y.) pitched the final two outs of the seventh and the eighth to complete the pitching for the Pioneers as he did not allow a hit and retired all five batters faced.

Marc Rutledge was the pitcher of record for Dowling, going to 6-2 on the season as he pitched eight and two-thirds for the Golden Lions.  Rutledge struck out six and scattered nine hits and three runs over his course of work with De La Rose coming in to record the last out.

The Pioneers and Golden Lions will face each other again later this week, as Dowling travels to C.W. Post on Friday, April 13, for a 3 p.m. game.
