No. 5 Women's Lacrosse Earns 22-10 Victory Over St. Thomas Aquinas

HILLBURN, N.Y. (April 10, 2012) -  The fifth-ranked C.W. Post women's lacrosse team dispatched St. Thomas Aquinas, 22-10 on Tuesday afternoon in East Coast Conference action.  Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the way with a game-high 11 points on four goals and seven assists, while Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) scored a team-high six goals. 

C.W. Post improves to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in conference action while St. Thomas Aquinas moves to 6-3 and 1-2 in the ECC standings. 

Sileo connected with Samantha Losco (Smithtown, N.Y.) at 28:09 to kick off the scoring for the Pioneers.  Behind goals from Sileo, Abigail Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.), the visitors opened up a 4-0 lead. 

But Genevive Stickney scored the first two of her game-high eight goals on the day at 21:04 and 20:50 to cut into the lead and make it 4-2.   Olen responded with two straight goals of her own, both coming on Sileo helpers at 19:14 and 18:05, that made the score 6-2.

Stickney scored again at 17:30, and the Pioneers followed with two goals by Sileo at 16:07 and by Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) at 15:41.  Stickney followed with two goals and Anne Buttafuoco and Margaret Sharp each scored to cut the Pioneer lead to one, 8-7.

But the Pioneers regained control with four straight to close out the half and held a 12-7 lead at the midway point.

The second half saw the defense clamp down and hold the Spartans to just three goals, while Olen scored three more goals, Sileo added two, and five other Pioneers tallied solo goals to help the Pioneers to a 22-10 final score.

Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) earned the win, making four saves in goal.  Katie Hannan (Gansevoort, N.Y.) played the final 15:49 in goal, making three saves. 

In addition to Sileo and Olen, Spagnoletta and Mayott each registered hat tricks, and Losco and Ross each added two goals. 

Stickney led all players with eight goals, while Stephanie Nelson made two stops in goal for the Spartans. 

C.W. Post and Molloy will play on Saturday at 3 p.m. in an ECC matchup.
