BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (April 18, 2012) – Sophomore Katie Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) scored five goals and fellow sophomore Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) added five assists to lead the fifth-ranked C.W. Post Pioneers to a 20-5 victory over Bridgeport in East Coast Conference action on Wednesday evening.
The Pioneers improve to 11-1 and 6-0 in conference play, while Bridgeport slips to 3-5, 0-4 in ECC action.
C.W. Post opened up the game with a 9-0 run, as Rotan scored three goals and Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.) and Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) each scored two in the first ten minutes of play.
Lindsay Kehoe scored at 17:27 to get Bridgeport on the board, and it was another eight minutes before the Pioneers truck again on an Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) goal at 11:28.
Kehoe assisted Gabrielle Valela's goal at 9:47 that made the score 10-2, but C.W. Post closed out the half with five straight goals to take a commanding 14-2 lead.
Mayott opened the scoring in the second at 24:52 followed by a Rotan goal at 23:14. C.W. Post scored two more before another goal by Bridgeport sandwiched between two more Pioneer goals. Bridgeport closed out the game with two goals by Valela, but the Pioneers won by a dominating 20-5 final score.
Rotan finished the day with five goals and one assist, while Sileo had one goal and dished five assits. Spagnoletta, Olen, Mayott and Samantha Losco (Smithtown, N.Y.) all tallied hat tricks while Olen added two assists.
Junior goalkeeper Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) made three saves in the victory. The Pioneers outshot the Purple Knights 27-13 and held a 17-9 advantage in draw controls.
C.W. Post takes on Stonehill on Saturday at 10 a.m. as part of Senior Day festivities for the Pioneers.
