Budkevics, Pimental Lead Baseball To 9-2 Victory Over Mercy

Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (April 24, 2012) – Junior second baseman Angel Pimental (New York, N.Y.) batted 2-for-3 with three RBI and drove in the go-ahead run for the C.W. Post Pioneers as they took down Mercy College, 9-2, in an East Coast Conference baseball contest played Tuesday afternoon at Maverick Field.
 
C.W. Post improves to 22-15 overall and 12-5 in the ECC while Mercy falls to 6-31 overall and 4-16 in conference play.
 
Pimental's hit came in the third inning as he hit a bunt single to the third baseman that brought home sophomore left field fielder Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y. ) to break a 2-2 tie.  The Pioneers scored four runs in the third that also included a two-run double from junior catcher Anthony Corona (Carmel, N.Y.).
 
Pimental drove in his third run of the game in the seventh on a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher that scored sophomore third baseman Tom Tolan (Malverne, N.Y.) that pushed C.W. Post's lead to 6-2.
 
The Pioneers capped off their scoring with three runs on two hits in the eighth inning with RBI singles from freshman right fielder Tom Kastelan (Deer Park, N.Y.) and Iacono as well as a sacrifice fly to left from Tolan.
 
Mercy scored both of its runs in the second inning on a two-run home run off the bat of first baseman Jesus Jaile.
 
Junior Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.) won his sixth decision of the season after pitching six strong innings and giving up two runs on three hits while striking out 10 batters.
 
Iacono was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored while Corona batted 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
 
Joe O'Neill suffered the loss for the Mavericks after surrendering six runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.  Right fielder Andrew Bock batted 2-for-4 with a run scored.
 
C.W. Post is back in action on Friday at Mercy for a 2 p.m. start.
