No. 8 West Chester Rallies Past No. 5 Women's Lacrosse, 18-15

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 24, 2012) – The eighth-ranked Golden Rams of West Chester scored 13 second-half goals en route to a 18-15 comeback victory over No. 5 C.W. Post women's lacrosse on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action.
 
The loss is just the second and snaps an eight game winning streak for the Pioneers as they slip to 12-2 on the season, while West Chester improves to 13-2 overall.
 
West Chester took a 3-0 lead in the game before the Pioneers got on the board at 20:24 on a goal by Abbie Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.).  Five more goals including two by Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) and two by Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) turned the deficit into a 6-3 advantage.
 
West Chester scored two more and Ross added another for the Pioneers as C.W. Post took a 7-5 lead into the half. 
 
C.W. Post scored three straight goals to open the second half, taking a 10-5 lead at 27:45 on Nan Mayott's (Islip, N.Y.) first goal of the game.  West Chester's Jacki Patterson scored, followed by another Mayott goal to make the score 11-6.  Tori Dugan and Erin Oczkowski scored twice, followed by an goal by C.W. Post's Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) to give the Pioneers a four goal advantage, 12-8, with 20:45 remaining.
 
But West Chester won nine straight draw controls, seven secured by Dugan, and Jamie Dolan scored four goals during a 7-0 spurt in an eight-minute span as the Rams erased a five-goal deficit and took a 15-12 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining.
 
C.W. Post stayed close, but could not close the distance any further then two goals as West Chester came away with the 18-15 victory. 
 
West Chester won the draw control battle, 21-14, including a game-high by 14 by Dugan.  The Pioneers turned the ball over 12 times compared to seven for the Golden Rams, and WCU outshot the Pioneers by a 42-30 count.
 
Olen and Ross led the Pioneers with four goals apiece, while Sileo scored two goals and added seven assists.  Spagnoletta and Mayott each added two scores in the game.  Junior goalkeeper Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) made 13 saves in the game. 
 
Dolan scored a game-high six goals to lead the Golden Rams, who also got hat tricks from Patterson, Oczkowski and Dugan.  Goalkeeper Jess Henderson made nine saves for the hosts.   

Up next for the Pioneers is a date with top-ranked Long Island rival, Adelphi, on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Garden City.
