Baseball Dominates Mercy, 16-7
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (April 27, 2012) – The C.W. Post baseball team pounded out 12 hits en route to a 16-7 non-conference victory over the Mercy Mavericks on Friday afternoon.
The Pioneers scored two runs in the first to start off the game, then tacked on six in the third. Mercy scored solo runs in the third and the fifth, but the visitors broke the game open in the sixth with four more runs, taking a 12-2 lead.
The Mavericks scored a solo run in the sixth, but four more runs in the seventh for the Pioneers made the score 16-3. Mercy would score two in the seventh and two in the eighth, but the Pioneer lead was too large for the Mavericks.
Junior
Rafael Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) was the winning pitcher, throwing six innings and allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
Offensively, the Pioneers were led by
Tom Tolan (Malverne, N.Y.) who fininshed 3-for-5 with four runs and an RBI. Sophomore
Rich Maccarone (Glen Cove, N.Y.) had two hits and junior
Keith Herring (New York, N.Y.) had two hits, two RBI and scored three runs.
Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) and
Ryan Sloane (Westbury, N.Y.) each drove in three runs for the Pioneers.
Adam Rodriguez took the loss for the mavericks, who committed six errors in the game.
C.W. Post is back in action tomorrow in a 12 p.m. doubleheader against Molloy.
